What Is the “One Student, One Musical Instrument” Project?
This project encourages students to learn how to play at least one instrument before they graduate from high school. As a way to enhance the educational environment, the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education has developed the “One Student, One Musical Instrument Achievement Certification” system and selects music pieces that are suitable for each school and each student so that continuous learning is possible through the school years.

The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education has pursued the “One Company, One School Musical Instrument Donation Project” and a musical instrument teacher training course since 2013. The Art Club Teacher Association conducts training for more than 200 teachers every year.

Thanks to support from the local community, students in Daegu have access to a diverse range of musical instruments including those for rock bands and orchestras, Korean drums, ukuleles, flutes, and djembes. Thirty companies are taking part in this donation project and have donated instruments equivalent to 2.27 billion won to 406 schools. Consequently, 84% of students in Daegu (99% elementary school, 89% middle school, and 57% high school students) were able to be the beneficiaries of the “One Student, One Musical Instrument” Project in 2016.
